Dental Insurance at Crozet Family Dental

Crozet Family Dental welcomes patients with dental insurance and works with a wide range of plans to help families throughout Crozet, Charlottesville, and Albemarle County make the most of their benefits. Our experienced front office team handles insurance claims, verifies coverage, and helps you understand what your plan covers — so you can focus on your oral health rather than paperwork. We are committed to making dental care accessible and transparent. Whether you have employer-sponsored insurance, an individual plan, or a government program, we are here to help you navigate the process.

Plans We Accept

Crozet Family Dental is in-network with many major dental insurance providers and accepts most PPO and indemnity plans. While specific plan participation can change, we commonly work with carriers including Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, United Healthcare, Guardian, and many others. If you are unsure whether we accept your specific plan, please call our office at 434-823-4080 and our team will verify your coverage before your appointment. Even if we are not in-network with your particular carrier, you may still be able to receive care at our office and submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement.

How We Handle Insurance Claims

When you visit Crozet Family Dental, we file your insurance claims electronically on your behalf. This speeds up processing and helps ensure your claims are submitted accurately. In most cases, your insurance company will send payment directly to our office, and you are responsible only for your estimated copay, deductible, or coinsurance at the time of your visit. Before any treatment beyond a routine exam and cleaning, we provide a pre-treatment estimate so you have a clear picture of what your insurance is expected to cover and what your out-of-pocket cost will be. While insurance companies make final determinations on coverage, our estimates are based on our experience working with your carrier and are typically very close to the final amounts.

Understanding Your Dental Benefits

Dental insurance can be confusing, so here are a few key terms that help explain how most plans work: Annual maximum. This is the most your insurance will pay for dental care within a plan year, typically ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. Once you reach this limit, additional treatment costs are your responsibility until the plan resets. Deductible. This is the amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance begins covering its share. Deductibles usually range from $25 to $100 per person per year. Coinsurance. After your deductible is met, insurance typically covers a percentage of each procedure. Preventive care like cleanings and exams is often covered at 80 to 100 percent, basic procedures like fillings at 70 to 80 percent, and major procedures like crowns at 50 percent. Waiting periods. Some plans require you to be enrolled for a specific period before certain types of treatment are covered. This is especially common for major procedures. Our staff at Crozet Family Dental can review your specific plan details and help you understand exactly what is covered and when.

Maximizing Your Benefits

Most dental insurance plans run on a calendar year and your benefits reset each January. Any unused benefits are forfeited — they do not carry over. To get the most from the premiums you pay, we recommend scheduling preventive visits and any needed treatment before your benefits expire. If you need treatment that exceeds your annual maximum, our team can sometimes stage procedures across two plan years to take advantage of benefits in both periods. Dr. DeAngelis, Dr. Parvez, Dr. Willis, and Dr. Taylor work with our front office to create treatment schedules that balance your clinical needs with your financial goals.

No Insurance Coverage

If you do not have dental insurance, you are still welcome at Crozet Family Dental. We offer several payment options including CareCredit financing to help make dental care affordable for every family in the Crozet and Charlottesville area. Preventive dental care is one of the best investments you can make in your long-term health. Regular exams and cleanings help catch problems early when they are least expensive and least invasive to treat.
